Community Gardening in Binegar & Gurney Slade - Upcoming Meeting to make it happen

Sounds like a good combination doesn’t it?  We can make it happen for all of us.

A few of us think it would be great to get together to do some community gardening to provide food, flowers, herbs and wildlife-friendly planting in and around our villages.  We would target land which is under-used or neglected at present.

  • Would you like to see a community orchard?
  • How about a community garden where we could work together and share produce?
  • Might there be somewhere where we could plant herbs or veg in odd corners for other villagers to harvest  and enjoy?
  • Are there any scruffy verges where it would be good to plant native wildflowers, even trees ?

Imagine how lovely and cheerful our villages would look if we dressed them with fruit and veg, herbs and flowers.  Imagine the fun of getting together to grow.  Experienced gardeners could share their knowledge and spread the word.  Inexperienced ones could develop their skills.  Our health and fitness would improve with the exercise and the tasty food.  Wildlife would benefit.  We would make friends.  The kids could join in and develop into their community.

Once we have got going we might also help out occasionally in gardens where people need a hand to get on top of things for some reason – ill health or starting a new garden for instance.

And what about starting a garden-sharing scheme so that anyone with a garden which is more than they want or can manage can be matched with someone who is longing for a patch to work.

Binegar Parish Council is supportive of the idea and will give moral support and co-operation to make it happen in and around Binegar and Gurney Slade.

But are there enough of you out there to give it a go and make it work?  Come to a meeting at 8pm on Wednesday, 22 August in Binegar Memorial Hall Meeting Room.

Bring your ideas and let’s talk it through.

If you are interested but can’t make it please contact Dawn Marshall on
