Projects I'm involved with:
Growing Support runs gardening clubs in Residential Care Homes and Day Care settings as well as community gardens.

Loneliness and social isolation are increasingly recognised as serious public health issues. Older people and people with dementia are particularly at risk, especially those living in care homes where they may feel cut off from society.

Growing Support opens the door to the community. We recruit, train and coordinate volunteers providing a safe way for residents to enjoy a rich social interaction and maintain an active connection with the community.
I am a:
Involved in a Community Project
Skills I am seeking:
People who are keen to work with and support a group of older people and people with dementia in residential care / day care settings to develop and maintain a therapeutic garden. You don't need to be an expert. Just someone who has a passion for growing, and enabling others to do this too.
You need to be able to give at least 2 hours once a fortnight.
Skills I can offer:
Initial Induction Training
On the job training and support when working with participants from our Social and Therapeutic Horticulture Facilitators
Quarterly volunteer meetings where we provide training and an opportunity to socialise with your fellow volunteers
Peer mentor scheme
Valuable work experience
