Projects I'm involved with:
Alive is the UK’s leading charity enriching the lives of older people in care and training their carers. We are looking for green fingered people to becoming Alive - Growing Support volunteers, to assist with one of our fun and engaging care home gardening groups. Alive - ‘Growing Support’ Social and Therapeutic Horticulture workshops connect participants to their gardens and enable them to participate in a social group, helping to reduce social isolation and loneliness.
I am a:
Local contact of a National Group, Involved in a Community Project
Skills I am seeking:
People who are keen to work with and support a group of older people and people living with dementia in residential care and day care settings to develop and maintain a therapeutic garden. You don't need to be an expert. Just someone who has a passion for growing, and enabling others to do this too.
You need to be able to give at least 2 hours once a fortnight.
Skills I can offer:
Initial Induction Training
On the job training and support when working with participants from our Social and Therapeutic Horticulture Facilitators
Quarterly volunteer meetings where we provide training and an opportunity to socialise with your fellow volunteers
Peer mentor scheme
Valuable work experience

Hi Growing Support :-)

I love your project and a couple of times have  been asked by residential homes to ‘fix their garden’ (like it’s a quick mow the lawn job ;-)) I/we would love to have helped but we are not enough volunteers to keep our own park as we wish. Can you send us a direct contact email/telephone should we be asked again, or should we be able to remember who/which those homes were.  
Also, IF any of your residents and your organisation is up for/able to have days out we would love to work with you to arrange something in the park.
