Campaigning

IMG_4449Transforming our food system will take more than starting growing projects and local food projects. To create the social and political changes necessary to create a culture where local food systems can flourish, we will need to organise and campaign.

As US organiser Lee Staples says, "An issue campaign can provide an educational experience that dozens of consciousness-raising sessions, workshops, books, films, or seminars never could match"

There is a huge variety of campaigns and ways of resisting available to people that are either making demands for change (from the government or policy holders) or directly making change themselves.

Resources

There is a huge amount of information online that can support you to work with others to campaign around an issue you are passionate about. Here are a few we have selected which contain good advice about how to get started:

  • Landworkers Alliance - The Landworkers’ alliance are a organisation of people who make their livelihoods from producing food, fuel and fibre using sustainable methods of production. We campaign for the rights of small producers and a better food system. We are members of La Via Campesina, the international peasant farmers union and work in solidarity with our fellow land workers across the globe.
