The Allotment project is part of the Green Growers group based at Eastleigh Court in Taunton, supported housing for individuals with enduring mental health issues.

We have a large garden and six raised beds situated next to the car park. There is also an enclosed garden behind one of the houses and this was the chosen site for our allotment. We gained funding from the Taunton’s Mayors Fund/Somerset Community Foundation to move a green house from another project and purchase some new tools.

HSBC volunteers came to dig over the area and since then the allotment has been planted with a Bean bead, Squash bed and a brassica bed. The permanent bed has already been planted with asparagus and Rhubarb and with sunflowers and sweet corn, and a bed is being prepared for Leeks, swede, garlic and onions. All of this produce will be used in the cookery group which aims to introduce fresh vegetables to our client’s diets.
